Diversion, a Y Combinator-backed platform touting itself as the “GitHub for game development” announced today that it has raised $12 million in total funding. Most recently, it closed a seed+ round with $4.5 million, led by Konvoy. Diversion a version control platform created specifically with large-scale game development and other creative endeavors in mind. The funding will go towards expanding the company’s team and supporting larger studios.

Sasha Medvedovsky, Diversion CEO, said of the funding in a statement, “This raise highlights the incredible work of our engineering team in building a new kind of version control system—purpose-built for large-scale game development and creative industries. Our users love Diversion, and their feedback continues to shape our roadmap. With this new funding, we’ll keep investing in the user experience, improving workflows, and expanding the ecosystem to make Diversion the go-to platform for creative
    collaboration.”

Diversion is designed to help creative teams, such as game development studios, collaborate seamlessly while sharing large files and scaling workflows. According to the company, 15,000 game developers use its platform currently, and the userbase grows by 20% monthly. It plans to grow its presence in key markets and growing its product development to include triple-A studios and larger-scale projects.

Jackson Vaughan, Konvoy managing partner, said in a statement, “We’re incredibly excited for the future of game development with Diversion. Version control has been a source of pain for many developers with large 3D assets and existing offerings are inadequate for their needs. Sasha, Egal, and the team are bringing an elegant and fundamentally better solution to market for developers and artists. We are thrilled to be supporting them alongside New Era, YC, and others as they continue to build for game developers and creative industries at large.”
