Oppo quietly launched A5i and A5i Pro, though they are not entirely novel designs. Both are based on the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1, which is a rebrand of the Snapdragon 662. The same chip was used in the Oppo A5 Pro 4G, which shares many similarities with these two new models.

Both A5i phones feature 6.67” LCD displays with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. They can reach 1,000 nits of brightness. Outdoor visibility is further helped by the anti-glare coating. The Pro also has a 6.67” LCD (HD+, 90Hz), but it is a higher quality IPS panel.

The front and back are protected by China Southern Glass and Panda Glass. Oppo lists both as “twice reinforced” and the phones have undergone MIL-STD-810H testing and got a certification from SGS.

However, ingress protection on the A5i is pretty basic with an IP54 rating. The Pro model is a bit better at IP65. Both phones support wet touch.

The A5i is powered by a 5,100mAh battery, which promises to retain at least 80% of its capacity after four years of use. The phone supports 45W fast charging.

    Vanilla A5i: 5,100mAh battery • 45W charging

If you want more juice, the Pro has a larger 6,000mAh Si/C battery (still with 45W charging). The bigger battery makes the Pro a bit thicker and heavier, but not by much – it’s 7.68mm/186g for the vanilla and 7.99mm/193g for the Pro.

The differences between vanilla and Pro models continue. The vanilla model has a very basic 8MP main camera on the back, the front houses a 5MP module. Both are limited to 1080p @ 30fps video recording.

The Oppo A5i Pro has better ingress protection and a bigger 6,000mAh battery.

The Oppo A5i Pro stands out with a 50MP rear camera with a wider aperture (f/1.85 vs. f/2.0), but the front module is still only a 5MP camera. There’s a secondary module on the back and since its function is not listed, we’re assuming a depth sensor.

While both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 – an old 11nm design with Cortex-A73 and A53 CPU cores plus an Adreno 610 GPU – there will be a small performance difference between them. The Pro model has 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The vanilla model has less RAM, 4/6GB of LPDDR4X, and 64/128GB of slower eMMC 5.1 storage.

As the chipset’s name suggests, it only supports 4G LTE networking. Local connections are handled with dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth with aptX. The vanilla model also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, the Pro doesn’t, but it does have NFC and an IR blaster. Finally, both phones have a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The Oppo A5i Pro is available in the Philippines – right now, it’s exclusively sold through Shopee, but starting on June 20 it will also be available from Oppo’s TikTok shop and Lazada. The Pro is priced at PHP 9,000, which converts to $160/€140/₹14,000.

We haven’t found Oppo A5i in stores just yet. The A5i comes in Starry Purple and Nebula Red, the A5i Pro comes in Midnight Purple.
