It’s a big day today for several reasons. The first, obviously, is that it’s 2XP Friday so Competitive Wordle players double your points, good or bad. Second, it’s both the last day of spring and the first day of summer. The Summer Solstice takes place today. And finally, it’s my 44th birthday. I am a palindrome for the first time in 11 years. Alright, let’s solve this Wordle!

    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I guessed SPINE today because I just visited a spinal doctor and learned that I have something called Scheuermann’s Disease, which isn’t as bad as it’s spelled but also isn’t great. SPINE, however, was a pretty great opening guess. With 31 words left, I decided to try all new letters on guess #2. ABORT slashed the remaining number down to just two: PLATE or TAUPE. I almost went with PLATE, but decided to be bold and guess the less likely of the two. I’m glad I did. TAUPE was the Wordle! Huzzah for me!

    Competitive Wordle Score

Just like yesterday, the Bot and I each get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying. This bumps our June totals to:

    Erik: 13 points

    Wordle Bot: 10 points

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “taupe” comes from the French word taupe, meaning “mole” (the animal). It originally referred to the grayish-brown color of a mole’s fur. The French word itself derives from Latin talpa, also meaning “mole.” The word was first used in English in the late 19th century, as a color name.
