    Eufy Security E10 Smart Display

    ZDNET’s key takeaways

    • The Eufy Security E10 Smart Display is available for $200.
    • This smart display shows you the history and current status of your security system and works as a control panel with real-time alerts.
    • The E10 Smart Display only works with Eufy Security devices, so it’s not compatible with other security cameras or meant to be a smart home hub.

I’ve had an Eufy Security system since I moved into my home over three years ago, and after testing many other brands, I don’t plan on switching. I like that the cameras record locally onto a hard drive inside my house without any monthly fees. Eufy is constantly launching new cameras and features, so what more could I want?

Also: Your smart home device just got a performance and security boost for free

The answer is what every smart home nerd wants: a smart display to serve as their control panel. Several of these are already on the market, like the Amazon Echo Hub for Alexa-compatible products, and I’ve used the Google Pixel Tablet as one through Google Home. Just recently, however, Eufy launched its own: the E10 Smart Display.

The Eufy E10 Smart Display is a dedicated home security hub, not a general-purpose tablet like the Pixel Tablet. In that regard, it’s more similar to the Echo Hub: it’s only meant to give you insights and control over your compatible devices.

Since the E10 only works with Eufy Security devices, it’s not meant to be a general smart home hub. It has no third-party integration, like the Echo Hub, which works with non-Amazon-branded devices that are compatible with Alexa and doesn’t work as an entertainment tablet.

Instead, the smart display offers live security monitoring, gives smart reports twice a day, real-time live alerts, and control over your security system. You can mount it on a wall by your front door to quickly arm or disarm your system as you walk out the door or see the video doorbell feed when someone rings it, for example. It can also be placed on the charging dock on a table.

If you’re moving around the house, you can pick up the eight-inch display off the charging dock and use it wirelessly, thanks to its 4,050mAh battery, which offers over 24 hours on a single charge.

I like to have my home’s information within easy reach for various reasons throughout the day. While working at my desk, I try to stay on top of deliveries before they arrive so I can grab them quickly off the porch.

In the morning, I grab the Eufy E10 from the dock by the front door and put it on my desk using the kickstand at the back. The screen lights up each time a camera detects motion, and I can choose which cameras to jump straight to the live feed when a person is detected.

The E10 display gives you an activity summary of important alerts you may have missed, like the alarm going off due to motion detected indoors. It also shows you updates throughout the day, letting you know when a pet was last seen and how many packages have been delivered and picked up.

The Eufy Security E10 Smart Display also supports local storage via a microSD card.

For data fans, the E10 also shows you a dashboard of statistics with how many humans, pets, packages, and vehicles have been detected, which cameras have detected motion, and Cross-Camera Tracking from different events.

Cross-camera tracking is a Eufy feature that edits multiple clips together from various cameras that all pertain to a single event. If a vehicle is detected by a driveway camera and a driver gets out, walks up the driveway, and passes a walkway with another camera until they reach the video doorbell, the Eufy app will stitch these clips together to show them to you as a single event.

    ZDNET’s buying advice

    Maria Diaz/ZDNET

I have 11 Eufy Security cameras around my home, guarding each side of the exterior and the garage. I also have motion sensors in the house, a HomeBase 3, two Eufy FamiLock S3 Max, and an Eufy video doorbell. This is why the E10 Smart Display makes perfect sense for my setup.

Instead of picking up and unlocking my phone each time a person is detected on my driveway, the E10 at my desk lights up with the notification and immediately jumps to the live clip. All I have to do is glance at it, and it shows me the event that is currently happening.

Thankfully, I haven’t had nefarious activities to test my security system, but the information is extremely useful when I’m waiting on a delivery, when a visitor arrives, or even for something as simple as letting the kids know when Dad pulls the car out of the garage so they can get in.

But again, you need a Eufy system for it to work with. For something more multipurpose, I definitely recommend the Pixel Tablet for Google Home users and an Echo display for Alexa users. HomeKit users can often get away with repurposing an old iPad to use for Apple Home.
