When the iPhone 17 series lands, it’s going to look very different from the current line-up. And a new report tells us exactly how big the displays will be —and seems to confirm a highly desirable upgrade is coming.

Apple iPhone 16: will the iPhone 17 have a ProMotion screen for the first time?

While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will stick with the display sizes Apple introduced last year for the Pro models, the regular iPhone 17 will gain a bigger, and possibly better, screen.

According to Ross Young, an analyst who specializes in displays, in a post on X for subscribers only, and picked up by MacRumors, the display sizes will be changing.

Apple iPhone 17 screen will be bigger than the iPhone 16 display by 0.15 inches, that is, it’ll go up from 6.12 inches to 6.27 inches, which will match the size of the iPhone 16 Pro screen.

Apple rounds these figures, describing the iPhone 16 as having a 6.1-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro screen as measuring 6.3 inches. Expect the same this September.

Young says that the iPhone 17 Pro will continue to have the same size screen as it does now, that is, 6.27 inches.

Which makes me think that Apple may be about to release the first regular iPhone with ProMotion, the advanced dynamic refresh rate until now exclusively on iPhone’s Pro models. After all, the screen size increase to match the Pro means Apple could use the same display on both models. ProMotion also enables the always-on display on the Pro, so this could be coming to the regular iPhone, too.

The iPhone 17 Pro display is thought to be the same as now, that is 6.86 inches (6.9 inches in Apple Speak). Finally, the new slimmer phone, nicknamed iPhone 17 Air, will have a 6.55-inch display, Ross claims.
