    Byte-Sized Brief

    • Apple is developing brain interface tech.
    • Global attitudes toward implants are mixed.
    • Most Americans say no to brain chips.

Apple is laying the groundwork for brain-controlled tech as it teams up with Synchron to build a new standard that lets people control iPhones and VR headsets with neural signals. Much like the idea behind Neuralink, this could be life-changing for people with severe physical limitations. And while the tech is still in its early stages, Apple seems to be betting on a future where the brain is just another input device.

But, are people actually on board with this? Not really. A global YouGov poll from 2024 found that only one in five people across over a dozen countries would even consider such an implant, with just 11 percent of Americans saying the same. That number rises to 38 percent in India, but public interest is low across most Western countries. And without public buy-in, the future of brain interfaces looks uncertain.
