    The Download

    • You can fix the content load error by tapping the “Load Content” button in your email.
    • Turning off Mail Privacy Protection helps stop the error, but reduces privacy and anti-tracking features.
    • Updating your iPhone to the latest iOS version may solve the content load error problem.

Depending on the security settings on your iPhone, you might encounter the “Unable to Load Content Privately” error message. Here’s what’s causing it and how to fix it.

How to Fix Load Content Error in iOS 15

To solve the content load error in iOS 15, follow these steps in order:

    1. Bypass the Error and Load the Content. Tap the Load Content button at the top of the email, next to the error message. This manually loads the images and other email content for this specific email, though you might still encounter the error in other emails. When you tap this button, your IP address isn’t hidden from this email sender. However, if you’re using a VPN, the content loads through the VPN and remains protected.

    2. Turn Off Mail Privacy Protection. If the “unable to load remote content privately” error bothers you frequently, consider disabling Mail Privacy Protection. Be aware that this will remove some privacy and anti-ad-tracking features. To disable it, go to Settings > Mail > Privacy Protection > and switch the Protect Mail Activity slider to the off position, which appears as white.

    3. Enable iCloud Private Relay on Your Wi-Fi Network. Sometimes, Mail Privacy Protection interferes with content loading over a VPN or iCloud Private Relay. If you’re using iCloud Private Relay, enable it for your Wi-Fi network to resolve the error. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and tap the i next to your network. Then, move the Limit IP Address Tracking slider to the on position, labeled green. In some iOS 15 versions, this option is labeled iCloud Private Relay. You might also need to Force quit the Mail app and reopen it to see the changes whenever you use this Wi-Fi network.

    4. Whitelist iOS Mail in Your Firewall or VPN App. Security software like a VPN can cause this issue, so adjusting your VPN settings to not interfere with Mail might help. Many security apps allow you to add apps to a “whitelist” that permits them to function normally. Add the iPhone’s built-in Mail app to your VPN’s safelist to resolve the problem.

    5. Disable Your Firewall or VPN Software. If adding Mail to the safe list didn’t work or if your VPN lacks this feature, you may need to turn off your firewall or VPN to resolve the error. Disabling security software leaves your device vulnerable, so it’s not an ideal solution. If you decide to proceed, remember that the process for disabling the software varies based on the application used.

    6. Update iOS. If none of the solutions have resolved the content load error, a bug might be the cause of the issue in Mail. Your best option is to install an iOS update that may include a bug fix. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update to check for any available updates and install them if present.

    7. Contact Apple For Support. If you’ve exhausted all options and the error persists, it’s time to consult with Apple experts. Contact Apple online for support, or schedule an appointment at your nearest Apple Store for personalized assistance.

Causes of a Load Content Error in iOS 15

Apple introduced a security and privacy feature in iOS 15 to prevent advertisers from tracking you through email.

Mail Privacy Protection conceals your device’s IP address. However, it may disrupt the loading of images and other email items. This interference typically occurs when using Mail Privacy Protection alongside a VPN or iCloud Private Relay. In such cases, if content can’t be loaded while maintaining your privacy, the “unable to load content privately” error appears, and the content remains inaccessible.
