    Byte-Sized Brief

    • Gmail adds AI-powered smart replies.
    • It scans entire email threads.
    • Opt-out is available in Gmail settings.

Google is rolling out a major update to Gmail that adds smarter, more context-aware replies via Gemini. Called Contextual Smart Replies, it analyzes full email threads to generate responses you can choose from. The feature is already available for Workspace Business and Enterprise users, and admins can turn it on or off through settings.

But while the tool may save time, it also raises privacy flags. Gemini’s ability to scan your entire email history means more of your private communications could be exposed to cloud-based processing. If you’re not comfortable with that, you can disable the AI features in the mobile app by going to menu > Settings > your email > Google Workspace smart features. Uncheck the box next to Smart features in Google Workspace.
