After weeks of hyping it up, Honor today unveiled the Honor Magic V5 at an event in China as a successor to last year’s Magic V3. The Magic V5 is an incredibly thin and light foldable phone, powered by a flagship chipset. We’ve received one at our office for a review, but before we put it through its paces, let’s do a quick unboxing to see what Honor’s latest foldable has to offer.

Now, let’s talk about the design. The Honor Magic V5 comes in Ivory White, Black, Dawn Gold, and Reddish Brown colors. Ours is the Ivory White model, which is a hair thinner and lighter than the other three versions.

The Magic V5 in Ivory White

The Ivory White Magic V5 is 4.1mm thick when unfolded and 8.8mm thick when folded, while the other models measure 4.2mm and 9mm in their unfolded and folded states, respectively. At 217g, the Honor Magic V5’s Ivory White version is 5g lighter than the other models.

In comparison, the Honor Magic V3’s lightest version weighs 226g, measuring 4.35mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded. Even so Honor managed to pack a bigger battery inside the Magic V5: 5,820 mAh vs. the V3’s 5,150 mAh cell.

    Honor Magic V3

The Honor Magic V5 also has Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC under the hood, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Its folding display measures 7.95″ while the cover screen has a diagonal of 6.43″.

You can watch our Honor Magic V5’s hands-on video below, where Will walks you through the key features of the smartphone.
