    Byte-Sized Brief

    • Seek AI is a platform that lets enterprise users ask questions about data in natural language.
    • IBM acquired Seek as part of its enterprise AI growth process.
    • Seek’s technology will be a key in watsonx AI Labs, IBM’s new AI accelerator.

Seek AI, an agentic AI-powered data platform for e-commerce, Shopify, CPG enterprise, and financial services organizations, was acquired by IBM today for an undisclosed sum. Seek CEO and founder Sarah Nagy said via LinkedIn that Seek AI would be the foundation of IBM’s brand-new AI accelerator, watsonx AI Labs. IBM’s press release touts the accelerator as one that will give New York-based AI startups access to technical experts, mentorship, and amplification, as well as potential investment from IBM Ventures and its Enterprise AI Venture Fund to encourage breakthrough artificial intelligence applications for business.

“Building a foundational part of watsonx AI Labs allows us to pair our expertise building data agents with IBM’s engineering depth to solve clients’ toughest AI challenges,” said Nagy. Both companies are focused on developing New York City as a key player in the artificial intelligence race. Julie Samuels, President and CEO of Tech:NYC said, “It’s a win for our tech sector, communities, workforce, and economy. We’re thrilled to see IBM betting big on the extraordinary talent and entrepreneurial spirit that make this city so unique.”

    The Bottom Line

IBM’s acquisition of Seek AI to power creation of startup accelerator watsonx AI Labs is another message that the company intends to make artificial intelligence, and New York City, an integral part of its strategy to continue powering businesses worldwide.
