    EcoFlow

EcoFlow recently announced the launch of a new Ocean Pro whole-home energy backup solution, the company’s first permanent energy storage solution in the US. The full system lets you use EcoFlow or third-party solar panels with a smart home panel, an Ocean Pro inverter, and an Ocean Pro battery.

Instead of comprising a portable inverter and battery like the Delta Pro Ultra, the Ocean Pro is EcoFlow’s permanent installation system designed to compete directly with the Tesla Powerwall.

The Ocean Pro Battery offers 10kWh of storage, expandable to up to 80kWh, while the inverter supports up to 40kW of solar input and can handle 24kW of continuous power. Combined with existing or new solar panels, this system is designed to give users independence from the grid, which means continuous power during outages and extreme weather, with an advertised switchover time of under 10ms.

As someone who lives in a county prone to power outages due to storms, I appreciate being able to run large appliances, like my AC and fridge, to keep our home running for my three kids. With a power capacity of 24kW, the Ocean Pro can be counted on to do this.

Also: I tested a compact power station with a solar generator – and it’s my new travel essential

This system can run on solar and the grid, but it can also be paired with a gas generator or portable power stations. Powering it with a gas generator is particularly useful in the event of an outage during a storm, which may mean your solar panels don’t get enough sunlight through stormy clouds. You can use any 240V gas generator model via an SS2-50 port with the Ocean Pro system.

Compared to the Tesla Powerwall, the EcoFlow Ocean Pro system offers twice the maximum solar output of 40kW, up to eight batteries per inverter compared to the Powerwall’s capacity of three, and a 15-year warranty versus the Powerwall’s 10 years.

The EcoFlow Ocean Pro system is available in three finishes: Aluminum, Walnut, and Carbon Fiber. It can be installed indoors or outdoors, can operate in temperatures from -4°F  to 140°F, and can withstand floods of up to 2.6 feet deep.

Also: This power station just kept my lights on during an outage

EcoFlow hasn’t announced pricing, but you can expect a system with an inverter and enough batteries for an average home to cost upwards of $10,000, though you could benefit from federal tax incentives for home energy upgrades, which end on Dec. 31, 2025. To find out your specific pricing, you can set up a consultation on the EcoFlow website

When figuring out a system for my home, EcoFlow estimated I’d need around 43 solar panels, an Ocean Panel (with 40 smart circuits), and an Ocean Pro inverter with batteries. EcoFlow estimates that such a system could save me 90% off my energy bills, or around $2,700 a year.
