Wireless charging is getting a big upgrade. The Wireless Power Consortium has announced Qi2 25W (Qi v2.2.1), the newest version of its Qi charging standard. This latest step bumps power from 15W to 25W, offering close to 70 percent more power delivery. And this time, it’s not just for iPhones; Android devices are now officially on board with Qi2, although it’s unclear which manufacturers.
Qi2 25W can safely charge a smartphone battery from zero to 50 percent in about half an hour. 14 products have passed early testing, and hundreds more are queued up as certification ramps up. If your next phone supports Qi2 25W, you’re in for a nice upgrade.
The Bottom Line
Qi2 25W is rolling out with faster speeds and Android support. It can power your phone to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
