Pebble is so back. Not only is the original creator back to making more modern versions of the watches, but the new company, Core Devices, also got back the Pebble trademark, so the iconic brand is also living on. Among the latest devices is a long-overdue Pebble Time 2, and now, we can have a better look at its finalized design.
Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble and the person in charge of bringing Pebble back today, has just shown off what should launch as the final version of the Pebble Time 2. The watch was already announced, and has been for a long time, but it was announced with an unfinished prototype design. Now, though, what we’re looking at today should be the finalized version of the watch, provided there are any last-minute changes. And it’s looking really good.
The Pebble Time 2’s final design is a notable departure from earlier prototypes, and it looks smaller and more refined all-in-all. While the prototype model had a blocky H look, this looks like a more modern, refined, and premium product in general.
It features a large 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper screen with a small bezel and a remarkable 30-day battery life, all while retaining the classic Pebble OS buttons. The watch is constructed from stainless steel 316, with metal top and bottom parts and a housing enclosed with screws. The metal buttons have a knurling effect reminiscent of the Pebble Time Steel. Compared to the prototype version that was initially announced, the final Pebble Time 2 stands out with its larger screen and shorter lug-to-lug length, giving it a smaller feel on the wrist. The watch has a flat glass lens, which eliminates the double reflection seen on the curved glass of the Pebble Time Steel.
According to the team, the final design of the Pebble Time 2 was inspired by an earlier, forgotten 2016 design codenamed “Bolt,” which also utilized the same 1.5-inch e-paper color display. We won’t lie, though, it looks really good.
For those who have already pre-ordered a Pebble 2 Duo, the company has clarified that they will be able to switch to a Pebble Time 2 without losing their place in the queue. A survey link will be sent out to all Pebble 2 Duo pre-order holders within the next month, offering them the option to switch. The company has advised against canceling existing Pebble 2 Duo pre-orders, as this will result in being moved to the back of the line. And of course, if you still like the Pebble 2 Duo, you can just keep your pre-order for that—this is just for those that like the Pebble Time 2 better after looking at the finalized design.
