    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

SPADE got things off to a pretty good start with just 43 words remaining. I opted for all new letters with BROIL but this turned up no new boxes. With six words left, I guessed DAUNT which slashed that number down to just one: DATUM for the win! Tricky word . . . .

    Competitive Wordle Score

In keeping with our narrow June competition, the Wordle Bot and I tied today, each getting zero points for a June tally of:

    Erik: 2 points

    Wordle Bot: 2 points

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word datum comes directly from Latin datum, which means “something given” (it’s the neuter of datus, the past participle of dare, “to give”). In Medieval and Neo-Latin, datum was used in scholarly writings to refer to a piece of information or a premise. English borrowed it in the 17th–18th century in the sense of “an item of information,” later becoming established in scientific and technical contexts as the singular of data.
