We’ve crossed the halfway mark for June and the summer is heating up and flying by. Staying cool wasn’t a challenge a couple weeks ago, but if you don’t have AC now you might be in trouble. Either way, find some shade and let’s solve today’s Wordle!

    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

STALE was an excellent opening guess, leaving me with one green box and just 60 remaining words. Of course, I didn’t know how close I’d come on my first guess, and unfortunately I got very unlucky here on out. CHOIR only cut that number to 17 and left me with one more yellow box. In an attempt to rustle up another vowel, GUARD only cut my solutions down to five and gave me no new boxes at all. I guessed PRAWN because I knew both PRANK and BRAWN were possibilities, but I guess I should have gone with PRANK because that was the Wordle. Oh well.

    Competitive Wordle Score

I get -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 0 for guessing in four and +1 for beating me. This narrows our June totals to:

    Erik: 11 points

    Wordle Bot: 8 points

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word prank likely comes from Middle English pranken, meaning “to show off” or “to adorn oneself.” It may be of Low German origin, related to prunken (“to strut, show off”). The modern sense of “a mischievous trick” emerged in the 16th–17th century, evolving from the idea of showy or playful behavior.
