    How to solve today’s Wordle.

It’s Wordle Wednesday, which means you have a special puzzle to solve. Every week (except for a couple times when I totally spaced it!) I give you fine puzzle-solvers an extra challenge. The key to every successful relationship is clear communication, but the other key to every successful relationship is variety. And that, dearest Wordlers, is why I do this. I want us to have a good relationship, so I keep things spicy with these Wednesday riddles, brain-teasers and logic puzzles. Today’s is a bit different. This one is both a visual puzzle and a reasoning puzzle. Here’s today’s challenge:

In the image below, which of the shapes is the odd one out?

If you think you know the answer, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. I’ll post the solution tomorrow. In the meantime, we have a Wordle to solve!

    How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

    • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
    • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
    • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

    Today’s Wordle Hints And Answer

    Wordle Bot’s Starting Word: SLATE

My Starting Word Today: BREAD (472 words remaining)

    The Hint: Sulky expression.

The Clue: This Wordle has two vowels in a row.

Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming!

    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

BREAD was a bad opening guess and I even thought it would be when I guessed it, but I like bread. A lot. And I went with it despite my gut telling me not to (because my gut was also telling me that bread is good). With 472 words remaining and 0 yellow or green boxes, I was off to a pretty bad start. I went with HOIST for my second guess and that slashed 472 down to just 5. Unfortunately, my LOFTY ambitions were not enough to get this one in three. I finished today’s Wordle feeling a bit POUTY. Le sigh.

    Competitive Wordle Score

    Today’s Wordle Bot

    Screenshot: Erik Kain

Surprise, surprise. The Bot and I tied for like the millionth time this month. We get 0 points for guessing in four and 0 for tying, leaving us tied for September, ten days in:

    Erik: 7 points

    Wordle Bot: 7 points

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

Pout first appeared in Middle English (early 14th c.), probably from Scandinavian roots (compare Old Norse púta “to puff up the cheeks”) or from Middle Low German pūten “to swell.” It originally meant “to push out the lips” in sulkiness.
