Google has announced a UI redesign for its Photos app on iOS, updates that are being made available on the iPhone before they are released on Android. Google states that the updates make for a “simpler, more modern, and more intuitive UI.”

    The changes include:

    • A new light mode and the ability to match the iPhone’s setting of light or dark mode.
    • Identification of date, time, and location at the top of a photo.
    • Some actions have moved to the three-dot menu.
    • Photo stacks and bursts now have simpler management with a three-dot icon associated with a selected thumbnail. Tapping it allows you to manage the stack.
    • New badges offer a variety of actions, including changing the photo’s category, playing or pausing a Live or Motion photo, saving a shared photo to your library, or backing up a photo and managing your storage.

The Google Photos update includes changes to the three-dot menu (left) and streamlined UI for managing your photos.

The updated UI is now available for iOS in version 7.35 and will be coming soon to Android. The Google Photos app is available in the App Store; if you already have it, you can get the update by opening the App Store, tapping your account icon in the upper-right corner, then scrolling down to see your available app updates.
