Sling TV is one of the best live TV streaming services for shows, movies, and sports, and now it has all-new options for those who only need TV for a day. If you don’t want to pay for a full subscription but want a day or weekend to binge-watch shows and live sports, Sling has you covered.
In a bold move to change how people cut the cord yet still access cable TV, Sling TV has launched an industry-first $4.99 “Day Pass,” offering full access to its catalog of content for 24 hours. That’s endless live and on-demand content spanning several channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, TNT, Disney Channel, CNN, Fox, A&E, and others.
If you want to watch TV for more than a day, Sling TV has additional options, including a weekend pass for only $10 or an entire week for $15. For example, you could get a weekend pass on Friday night after work, binge-watch a few TV shows, catch NCAA College Football on Saturday morning, watch a movie, and then tune into NFL games on Sunday.
Obviously, these single-serve live cable TV offerings will only appeal to select people, but if you cut the cord but don’t want to sign up for any particular subscription service, this sounds like an excellent option. That’s especially true for sports fans who might want to watch a specific game or two throughout the season without a bigger commitment.

Owned by Dish, Sling TV was one of the first live TV streaming services and now competes with others like YouTube TV. And as you all know, the streaming landscape is ever-changing, with new services constantly appearing. Instead of trying to compete by offering more channels or original programming, the company apparently wants to offer à la carte TV instead.
Sling usually offers two main packages, Sling Blue or Sling Orange, that vary slightly in terms of news channels like CNN or Fox, along with sports or movies. These all-new day passes include everything you’d get with Sling TV’s $46 Sling Orange subscription. Interestingly enough, if the day or weekend pass doesn’t have the channel you want for a series premiere or sporting event, you can add it for a small charge.
Additionally, the company says some add-on packages, including the Sports Extra, News Extra, or Lifestyle Extra lineups, are available for only $1 extra, making that day pass $6. Those add-on passes increase in price for longer lengths, including $2 for a weekend or $3 for the week-long pass.
It’s worth noting that Sling recently went up in price, so it’s nice to see an affordable new option arrive for those looking to save a bunch. The company said its new passes are “built for the way people actually watch TV today” and put viewers in control.
