Coloring apps for kids are great for practicing fine motor skills, expressing creativity, and just plain old having fun without a mess left for mom or dad to clean up. Rather than buying a ton of coloring books, check out our parent-approved coloring apps for kids and toddlers, rated by features, ease of use, and appeal.

By the way, technically, there’s no age limit on who can use these apps. If you can’t resist trying them out, we say go for it!

    Voxly 3D Color by Number

Your child can bring coloring to life by creating 3D images that look like they’ll leap off the screen. When they’re done, you can easily share their original art via Instagram, Facebook, and messaging apps so friends and family can admire the budding artist’s work.

Voxly is free to download but you can eliminate ads and unlock additional content with a variety of subscription options.

    Quiver 3D

Print, color, and play with images in the Quiver 3D app.

This augmented reality app brings coloring pages to life, but there’s a twist: You download and print the desired coloring pages, then let your child color by hand. Once done, your child can view the pages through the app and watch their creations ‘come to life’. We like this app because of the educational themes, including animals, Earth, state parks, and more.

A limited number of pages are free; others are available via subscription.

    Baby Coloring Books for Kids

Baby Coloring Book has several tools kids can color with.

Developed by child education experts, the Baby Coloring Book for Kids (also known as Coloring Book for Kids on the Google Play Store) is designed to help toddlers explore their creative side and develop fine motor skills and logical thinking.

They will love the fun characters that guide them through drawing lessons, and what kids don’t enjoy coloring dinosaurs, sea creatures, fairy tales, robots, and more?

You can access plenty of these pages for free, but like everything else, you’ll need to pay more to get access to more features.

    ME-ZZ Coloring Books

Kids can choose from several options for coloring in the ME-ZZ app.

ME-ZZ has a variety of coloring books, all sorted by category. There are versions for dog or cat lovers, sports fans, zoo fanatics, and more. (If you’re taking a trip this summer, check out the travel coloring book in particular.)

We love ME-ZZ because it’s the iOS-only app works great on MacBooks and iPads, with brush tools perfect for little fingers. The app includes zoom and video replay features, too.

Kids can color in provided pictures or draw their own imagination onto blank pages using a realistic painting adventure. Plus, there are standard and 3D coloring options available.

You can get an ad-free experience and additional pictures to color for a small fee.
