    Have you been following any of the memes and jokes about the NYT Connections puzzle? There are images and videos where people playing the Connections editors throw out the most random themes for their categories, like “circus jobs, but in Pig Latin” or “people that I hated in high school.” Yep, well, today’s purple category is like that and the blue category isn’t far off. There’s also a Three Wise Men feint. Read on for clues and today’s Connections answers.

    The Times now has a Connections Bot, like the one for Wordle. Go there after you play to receive a numeric score and to have the program analyze your answers. Players who are registered with the Times Games section can now nerd out by following their progress, including number of puzzles completed, win rate, number of times they nabbed a perfect score and their win streak.

    Here are four hints for the groupings in today’s Connections puzzle, ranked from the easiest yellow group, to the tough (and sometimes bizarre) purple group.

    Yellow group hint: Big trip.

    Green group hint: Means a lot to someone.

    Blue group hint: Sometimes a vowel.

    Purple group hint: 11th letter of the alphabet and — oh, never mind, this one’s a real stumper.

    Yellow group: Expedition.

    Green group: Hold dear.

    Blue group: Words whose only vowel is “Y.”

    Purple group: Names ending in “K” plus word.

    The theme is words whose only vowel is “Y.” The four answers are myrrh, nymph, rhythm and sphynx.

    The purple words in today’s Connections

    The theme is names ending in “K” plus word. The four answers are frankincense, jackpot, markdown and nickname.
