It’s already Sunday and July is already very nearly halfway over. It’s too hot outside and the smoke from a nearby wildfire is filling the sky. It’s all very ominous, truth be told. Fire season is the worst time of year. The only cure is monsoon season. Say a prayer for rain, do a rain dance, make an offering to the rain gods. Whatever it takes. Fire or rain, we have a Wordle to solve so let’s solve it!

    Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Don’t think TWICE, it’s alright. My opening guess was mostly not alright, unfortunately. Though SOLAR slashed the 219 words remaining down to just five. I very nearly guessed GNOME next. It was my favorite of the words I came up with as potential Wordles. I went with PHONE because it seemed like a more likely answer. I should have gone with my gut! I failed you, garden gnomes!

    Competitive Wordle Score

    Today’s Wordle Bot

Once again: 0 points for the Bot and I thanks to guessing in four and tying. Our July totals remain:

    Erik: -2 points

    Wordle Bot: 8 points

    How To Play Competitive Wordle

    • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
    • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
    • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
    • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

    Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “gnome” comes from the 16th-century Latin word gnomus, coined by the Swiss alchemist Paracelsus, possibly based on Greek gnōmē (meaning “thought” or “intelligence”). It referred to an earth-dwelling elemental spirit. The modern image of a small humanoid creature developed later in folklore and fantasy.
