A Design That Blends Right In

I’ve always been pleased with the quality of Govee products, and the Outdoor Garden Lights were another worthy addition to the brand’s lineup of smart devices. I was impressed at how the company was able to balance a lightweight design with materials that feel tough enough to withstand the elements. The lamp fixtures, extension poles, and lamp bases are aluminum, joined by metallic fasteners that connect all these individual pieces. A translucent silicone covering protects the lights themselves.

Rocking an IP66 rating, the Govee Garden Lights will be able to endure just about any form of precipitation and can withstand temperatures between -4°F and 104°F. You’ll also be able to use the pole adapters to achieve one of three Garden Light heights: one, two, or three feet tall. I also liked that the male-to-female portions of the attached power wiring came with threaded, weatherproof connectors. The main power run that feeds the Garden Lights control box is about 12 feet long.

Putting all the pieces together is a pretty straightforward process. Word to the wise, though: don’t be afraid to use your muscles! Some of the metallic fasteners need a good shove to get Part A connected to Part B. Govee was also adamant that once the stakes are attached, you do not grab the two light fixtures for leverage when you’re driving the Garden Lights into the soil. Instead, you’ll want to position your hands along the spine of your configured Garden Light when driving it into the ground.

    Behold the Natural Beauty

The Govee Garden Lights are not your everyday outdoor smart lights. Billed as an RGBWWIC (Red, Green, Blue, Warm White, and Integrated Circuit) system, the LED light strips take color gamut and peak brightness to the next level. Delivering up to 1,100 lumens when displaying full-spectrum white, I was amazed at just how bright the Garden Lights could get. And thanks to Govee’s dedication to rich, arresting tones (brought to us by the 16-bit LuminBlend system and a CRI score of 94), you’ll have up to 16 million colors to combine and create with.

But what’s most important is how everything looks together. Working with a blend of blood-orange petunias and greenery, the Garden Lights did a fantastic job at bringing out the finer details of these plants without ruining the natural ambiance of the outdoor space. I also found it easy to find just the right balance of warm and cool LEDs.

The Garden Lights brought smooth color gradients to the table, too. While I preferred the more naturalistic warm white lighting to let the plants speak for themselves, the Garden Lights performed just as nicely when I put the RGB portion of the tech to work. Even an arrangement as bombastic as static red, blue, green, and orange looked great. You’ll definitely want to use the Garden Lights to enhance your next Halloween or Christmas countdown!

With up to 64 lighting scenes to choose from, the IC portion of the Garden Lights tech (which stands for independent control) allows for some of the most seamless color and lighting transitions I’ve seen to date. Frankly, I wish there was a more natural-looking way to keep the Garden Lights indoors (the green aluminum casing isn’t exactly interior-friendly).

To set up, control, and customize the Govee Garden Lights, you’ll need to download the Govee Home App (for iPhone and Android devices). You’ll also need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection if you plan on controlling the lights remotely or with a voice assistant like Alexa, but they also connect over Bluetooth.

I’ve used the Govee app before, and while it’s a bit intimidating at first glance, I guarantee you’ll quickly find the features and settings that work best for you. As mentioned, there are 64 pre-made scenes to choose from, but you’ll also be able to create your own. Govee also makes it easy to change colors and brightness levels in just seconds, and I even thought the Music Sync feature worked really well; it was certainly a thrill to watch the Garden Lights rock out to Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne!

The app even lets you adjust individual light sections or entire segments. The option to schedule the Garden Lights to run at specific times throughout the week is pretty convenient, too.

The Garden Lights are also compatible with Alexa, Google Home, and Matter. I run an Alexa ecosystem and was able to easily turn the lights on or off, change colors, and adjust brightness.

Should You Buy the Govee Outdoor Garden Lights?

Govee makes some incredible smart devices, and the Govee Outdoor Garden Lights are no exception to this awesome track record. If I was pressed to complain about something, I think they’re about $50 overpriced. That said, it’s hard to beat the performance and reliability of any Govee lighting product.

Speaking of which, you should check out our recent review of the Govee Outdoor Lamp Post. I also was able to test and review the O.G. Govee Smart Curtain Lights a while back (one of the company’s more unique items).
