Back in March, Nintendo released its Nintendo Today app, which acts as a hub for the latest news from the company about its games and the upcoming Switch 2. It appears, however, that Nintendo doesn’t want some of that news on its app shared via screenshots.

On the app, there are videos available to watch for the upcoming Switch 2 games, but when you try to screenshot an image from these videos, the resulting screenshot comes up blank, as reported by The Gamer on Monday. This happens only with videos; taking screenshots of slideshows is allowed.

CNET reached out to Nintendo for comment before publication and is awaiting a response.

Nintendo does appear to be pulling out all the stops to control the sharing of anything related to the Switch 2, which launches on June 5. Last year, Nintendo began using Denuvo, a digital rights management technology, for Switch games, which would prevent them from being emulated on PC. Nintendo recently updated its user agreement, allowing the company to brick any Switch console that’s been modified via software or hardware. And in Japan, it’s putting a stop to people attempting to scalp Switch 2 consoles.

With the Switch 2 more than a week away, getting one at launch without preordering is unlikely, but not impossible. Best Buy, GameStop and the Nintendo Store in New York City and San Francisco will hold midnight launches for people who ordered early, but there might be some extras available the day after. Preorders at all the major retailers sold out quickly after Nintendo instituted a delay due to the tariffs implemented by US President Donald Trump. Nintendo sold preorders for the Switch 2 via its online store earlier in the month, but the company says some of those won’t be fulfilled until after the console’s official launch.

The Switch 2 launch price is $450 for the console and $500 for the console with Mario Kart World. Nintendo said this price could increase sometime after launch, depending on how tariffs affect the costs of the console. Nintendo did increase the price of the Switch 2 accessories before launch day.
