Is this our first look at the iPhone 17 Pro’s official marketing image?

In just about a month, Apple will unveil four iPhone 17 models, which are expected to bring some significant changes to the lineup, including an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, an array of new colors, and the first new camera designs in years. While we’ve seen numerous concepts and dummies based on these rumors, we’ve yet to see Apple’s official images for the new phones—until now.

Over on X, user Oliur (@UltraLinx) has posted what he claims is a “legit” image of the back of the iPhone 17 Pro. It appears to be the same image Apple will use for the “What’s in the Box” section of the iPhone 17 Pro mini site.

    Oliur (@UltraLinx)/X

Oliur, who designs wallpapers and websites, and sells curated sets of Lightroom presets and Look Up Tables for iPhone photography, doesn’t have a history of leaking, so it’s possible this is simply a very good render. And he gives no source, writing instead, “Don’t ask me how I know,” which only adds to the suspicion.

But it’s hard to ignore how much the image looks like it was taken from Apple’s site. The lighting against the matte black exterior barely illuminates the camera lenses, while the Apple logo is perfectly in view. The image shows the iPhone 17 Pro’s two most rumored design elements: the wide camera bar that contains all three cameras, LIDAR sensor, and flash, and a new half-glass, half-aluminum aesthetic.

In the photo, the camera array appears to be made of matte black aluminum while there is a glass section directly below the camera array that’s slightly raised (but not as much as the camera). The matte black color is very dark, much deeper than the iPhone 16 Pro’s Black Titanium.

Whether it’s real or not, the image gives us a very good look at what’s sure to be a polarizing design. We’ll see it all very soon, as Apple is reportedly planning an event for Tuesday, September 9. In the meantime, stay tuned to our iPhone 17 superguide for all the latest news and rumors.
