    Byte-Sized Brief

    • New MagSafe with Qi 2.2 certified in Taiwan.
    • Supports up to 45W wireless charging.
    • Should work with iPhone 11 and newer.

A new MagSafe charger has appeared on Taiwan’s NCC certification website, and it’s packing something new: Qi 2.2 support. This wireless charging standard allows for up to 50W charging speeds, and according to 91Mobiles, Apple’s charger appears to support up to 45W. That’s quite the jump from the 15W limit of the Qi 2 standard—this translates to faster top-ups and less time spent hovering over an outlet.

If you’ve got an iPhone 11 or newer, this might be the upgrade you didn’t know you needed. The new puck looks similar to the old one, but offers improved magnetic alignment, better efficiency due to less wasted energy, and is backward-compatible with older Qi chargers. If you’ve been thinking about replacing your charger or you’re tempted to get the iPhone 17 later this year, which might support Qi 2.2, this could be a smart accessory to keep in mind.

    The Bottom Line

Apple’s upcoming MagSafe charger supports the Qi 2.2 standard and bumps wireless charging speeds to possibly 45W. At triple the speed of most current MagSafe chargers, you can expect upcoming iPhones to power up much faster.
