    CNET

The game, the Switch, the legend — the Nintendo Switch with gray Joy-Con is now available at Walmart for under $300.

Enjoyed by players of all ages, the Nintendo Switch needs no introduction. The time-tested console has made gaming more accessible and portable for nearly a decade, and now Walmart is selling the Switch for under $300. While the Nintendo Switch 2 was released earlier this year, most retailers sell the Switch 2 for $450-$500, making the original model definitely worth considering.

The Nintendo Switch can be played on the go or at home in HD on your TV when docked. It comes with two controllers for battling family members and friends (or enemies, depending on the game). This model comes with gray Joy-Con, which, admittedly, is not as flashy as some of the red/blue or purple/yellow options, but still does the job (without the upcharge).

The Switch’s battery life depends on the game you’re playing, but it averages between 4.5 and 9 hours per charge. It has a 6.2-inch screen, 32GB of data storage, and online gaming capabilities.

ZDNET writer Maria Diaz went hands-on to compare the Nintendo Switch with the Nintendo Switch OLED, and noted a number of similarities, despite the $50 price difference. Each model has 4GB RAM with a screen resolution of 1080p for TV and 720p for handheld, and each uses a Custom Nvidia Tegra X1 processor. Diaz notes that the OLED model has a larger screen and double the storage, but adds that “the Nintendo Switch OLED is an iteration that didn’t live up to the hype.” Ultimately, at under $300 for a never-used model, the classic Nintendo Switch definitely holds up.

    How I rated this deal

It’s not the latest Nintendo Switch model, but at $200 cheaper than the Nintendo Switch 2, this Walmart promotion is a pretty good deal. Nintendo Switches are versatile, easy to use for all ages, and unquestionably durable.

We’re not sure when this promotion will expire, but Walmart’s website says that the Nintendo Switch with gray Joy-Cons are low in stock, so we don’t expect this deal to last long.
